Spot light Initiatives
National Women’s Council as an advocate of Women’s Rights has always taken the initiative to raise awareness on Violence Against Women through participation of the spotlight initiative programs. Women Council has recognized Violence Against Women as a human right abuse and has continuously engaged in supporting concrete measures to end VAW with a special focus on prevention, protection and provision of services; promoting women’s economic empowerment and participation preventive and response measures thus creating s catalyst for strengthening the country’s protection system for women and girls against Violence.
Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in the world. To address this, the European Union and the United nations have embarked on a multi-year programme to eliminate violence against women and girls.
In Uganda, the Spotlight Initiative was officially launched on International Women’s Day, 8 March 2020.
The Spotlight Initiative coordinated by Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development is supporting concrete measures to end violence with a special focus on prevention, protection and provision of services; promoting children and women’s economic empowerment and participation in all aspects of society and will be a catalyst for strengthening the country’s protection system
